The support of a family is very significant in someone’s healing. Carmen felt lucky because surrounding people who supported her. She went through something so traumatic that it left her feeling fearful all the time.
Carmen feared almost everything, especially loud noises. She was so traumatized because of what happened to her.
When Carmen was only six months old, a kid shot her. It left her tail and back legs paralyzed. Carmen needed to drag her hind legs to move.
Thankfully, things changed for Carmen when she got adopted and met her new brother, D’Angelo. D’Angelo changed everything for her.
The two dogs formed a deep connection because D’Angelo also had a horrible past. D’Angelo was emaciated when he was found and was about to be euthanized. His rescuer fought for him.
The rescuer knew that D’Angelo wanted to live, and he did. D’Angelo gaining weight and he became a happy dog after his adoption.
D’Angelo knows how it feels to have low self-esteem. Because of this, D’Angelo makes sure that he helps his sister gain confidence. D’Angelo is always there for Carmen whenever she needs him.
With D’Angelo, Carmen feels relaxed and secure. Because Carmen felt so safe, she kept pushing herself to walk again.
She still stumbles and falls, but she would always get up and try again. Through all her challenges, D’Angelo was there by her side. The day came when Carmen could use her back legs again.
When it’s time to rest from the day’s activities, the two will snuggle up together. D’Angelo has a calming effect on Carmen, which helps her control her anxiety.
Their mother is very thankful that D’Angelo and Carmen get along. She is grateful that D’Angelo is an amazing big brother to Carmen. Seeing Carmen gain confidence with D’Angelo’s help warms their mother’s heart.
