Everyone loves a parade; especially a dog parade! A little dachshund named Friday helped a neighborhood bond just when they needed it the most.
To know Friday is to love him. “He’s intelligent, fearless, playful and walks proudly with a strut that turns heads,” Lani Nguyen, Friday’s mom, says of him. “He’s the most gregarious little dachshund, making friends with everyone he meets. He’s been dubbed ‘The Mayor of Marine Street Beach’ and everywhere he goes people smile as they shout, ‘It’s Friday!’”

While walking Friday one afternoon, Nguyen ran into a fellow dog lover and they began talking about how much joy dogs bring into their lives. The one lady knew of an elderly neighbor who missed having a dachshund since his dog passed away 14 years ago. Nguyen thought of her elderly neighbor, who also loved dachshunds and longed to have one of her own.
They both decided to put together a socially distanced dachshund parade to cheer up their elderly neighbors. They reached out to the Facebook community and within a few days, had arranged for 17 dachshunds and their owners to participate in a parade which would march in front of the elderly neighbors homes.

The 97 year old man was able to hold a dachshund on his lap. This made him especially happy. The elderly lady said it brought her so much joy to see all the dachshunds on her lawn. She stated her heart was full that day.

A group of strangers were able to come together and spread joy with their dogs. This helped to strengthen their community during uncertain times.
Friday and all the other dachshunds were able to share their unconditional love throughout the neighborhood. These special dogs reminded everyone of the importance of community and being connected to others, even during a global pandemic.
